Seabrook Historical Society

Above the library. What is recorded, and what is only said.

The Seabrook Historical Society collects and keeps the records of the town: photographs, maps, papers and the recollections of residents. It has the room above the library, which is open on Tuesday afternoons. The chairman is Mr Ronald Briggs.

The Society keeps its own collection of photographs. It was begun after the fire of 1956 at the office of the Seabrook Chronicle, in which the newspaper’s archive for that year was lost.

In answering enquiries the Society distinguishes what is recorded from what is said. It is asked most often about the pier, the harbour and the lifeboat. On more than one of these its answer is that accounts differ.

New members are welcome and the subscription is modest. Enquiries by post are answered within the month. The annual general meeting is held in April.
